Tumbleweed Raises $9,000 For Charity Despite Tough Economic Times
March 11, 2009 – LOUISVILLE, KY – Tumbleweed Southwest Grill presented a check to the Kentucky Special Olympics for $9,000 during their initial hosting of the Polar Bear Plunge – an annual event which raises money for the Special Olympics.
Tumbleweed’s Waterfront location served as the event’s venue, during which over 2,800 volunteers braved the icy Ohio River after raising donations from various sponsors. Twenty-three Tumbleweed employees also took the plunge, including directors, general managers, Executive Vice President/CCO Mike Higgins and President/CEO Matt Higgins.
In December 2008, every Tumbleweed location began selling “Polar Plunge” ice cream desserts. A dollar of each dessert’s sale was also included in Tumbleweed’s donation.
Tumbleweed is based in Louisville, Kentucky. The chain opened its first restaurant in New Albany, Indiana in 1975 and currently has 53 restaurants operating domestically and 10 internationally.
